Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan 3.5/5 stars
This is the sequel to Reign of Shadows, so if you haven’t read the first books maybe wait to read this post!
The first book took place in a new and refreshing world that I was immediately intrigued with. Jordan also does a good job of making this retelling of Rapunzel her own. The first book has a tower in the beginning, but everything else is Jordan’s own creation.
Luna and Fowler are the two main characters and the book is told from their alternating points of view. I really like them together because they compliment each other well, but they each have their own strengths that allow them to stand strong as their own characters.
This book was pretty short compared to what I’m used to. Jordan manages to make a lot happen as far as character and world building in the short amount of time that takes place in this sequel. However, the book ended too abruptly in my opinion. I thought this would be a series and I was anticipating another cliffhanger at the end of this book. But all of sudden it was all over. It was way too quick. Jordan could have drawn out so much more of the story and maybe made another book. I loved the book up until the end. It felt like Jordan just really needed to end it. She did just not that well.
I still enjoyed it and I would recommend this book for fans of C.J. Redwine’s Shadow Queen
