The Best Audiobook Ever

Yes, folks, I am making that claim. I should clarify that I don’t listen to a lot of audiobooks. I prefer to read books at my own pace. I’m also a terrible listener. I zone out for what feels like a hot second, and all of a sudden I’ve missed huge plots points and there’s no way to recover. I have found, however, that I like audiobooks when I have a long drive or a large task to finish.

So, I’ve been dabbling in audiobooks this summer. I’ve listened to a few, and I haven’t finished any of them,  (I haven’t driven a ton this summer). Thinking about audiobooks made me remember the best audiobook I ever listened to. It was The Spiderwick Chronicles compilation by Holly Black and Toni DiTerlizzi. It’s read by Mark Hamill. That’s right, Luke Skywalker and the Joker read this book. It’s phenomenal.

Hamill does an amazing job of voicing the Grace children as well as the countless unique characters so wonderfully portrayed in the book’s artwork. He brings them to life in a whimsical and eerie way. I had read the books before listening to the audiobook, but that didn’t keep me from enjoying the drama and the suspense of every moment. This is a series that deserves to use more than one sense. I am also a lover of the movie adaption as well.

I recently re-listened to the audiobook and it still holds the same magical quality. It is by far the best audiobook I have ever listened to, and I highly recommend it to audiobook and fantasy lovers alike.

Have you listened to this audiobook? Have you read this series? Share your thoughts and love in the comments!
