The Knife of Never Letting Go Review: I’m never letting go of this book

Friends, how am I so often late to the party when it comes to incredible books? What am I reading instead? How have I managed not to read them? How have I missed this book??

I’m reading other incredible books of course. Don’t worry I’m not tossing everything else I’ve ever read out the window.

I’ve heard of The Knife of Never Letting Go, I’ve even shelved it (I work at a library). I think I confused it with a different book because if I would have read the jacket, I would have TOTALLY read it.

My boyfriend saw the trailer for the upcoming movie and said we should see it. I knew I needed to read the book first though. So, we actually read the book together this weekend! It was a really fun experience. I haven’t read a book for pleasure at the same time as a friend in a long time!

We devoured it. It might be one of my favorite books of all time. I’m still deciding. I definitely need to own it though.

The writing was incredible. So much is happening at once, yet there are moments that are broken down bit by bit. The pacing is amazing. Todd’s thoughts are so clear and believable because they are chaotic and simple. They are everything I would want from a young male character.

The plot has so much depth and layers. I was constantly trying to put the pieces together as I read and thought about it. Ness does a great job keeping things from the readers and only giving them a little at a time, and even then it’s still not exactly what I expected! I really love when books surprise me because they’ve been leading me a different way on purpose.

The concept of this book is really intriguing and I found myself thinking about the moral issues that the book brings up. I’m a huge fan of dystopian stories because they really break down what makes us human, and I think this book does it really well and in a really refreshing and exciting place and story. I haven’t read a dystopian novel that’s set on another planet (at least I don’t think I have) so that was super fun.

The world and life are so new because we’re hearing the thoughts of everything and I thought that made even the small moments in the book really cool. I grew an appreciation for how these characters are never truly alone because they are almost one with every living being.

I’m really excited to read the next book! My boyfriend and I are going to read the next one very soon!
