“Are you a pearl? Or are you a bullet?”
If you liked the Six of Crows, you’ll like this book too. This city is so interesting to me. I love cities where there isn’t a true good side. I find fantasy gangs so fun to read about. I fell in love with Kaz, and I fell in love with Enne.
Friends, we need more female protagonists like Enne. She is a badass and I love it so much. Watching and experiencing her metamorphosis after entering Sin City is invigorating. I was hooked. I still am. I don’t want to give a lot away, but the growth that Enne goes through is so strong and real. She’s a fun and intriguing character to follow as she grows into herself and discovers her history.
“She was a pistol wrapped up in silk. She was a knife disguised as a girl”
The other character is Levi. He’s the lord of a gang, that specializes in gambling and games. The different categories of gangs and their physical identifications are very creative. Levi is better than he seems, and he actually has a heart of gold. His point of view couples well with Enne’s. As we see her sink deeper into Sin City, we see him start to shake some of the filth of it off. It’s an interesting dynamic, and as the reader sometimes I was dying from the dramatic irony they were unaware of.
This world is so fresh and so fun to read about. I love fantasy combined with the underworld of cities. Foody does such a good job of creating the world and characters that are intriguing and draw you in. I highly recommend this book. Go read it right now so you can start the next book King of Fools.
Let me know what you think of the ending. Let me know what you think of Enne and Levi. Just let me know what your thoughts are because I love this book and I want to talk about it!
